The Miami County Planning and Zoning Department administers county land use, building and zoning for the unincorporated area of Monroe Township. County zoning is authorized by Chapter 303 of the Ohio Revised Code. This office is responsible for overseeing all land use activities, review and issuance of zoning permits, and the investigation and abatement of violations.


This department strives to provide quality service assistance information and inspections in relation to residential and commercial construction in Miami County with the goal of protecting the health, safety and welfare of the consumer; the general public, the owners and occupants of residential and commercial buildings within Miami County.

The staff of this department work to service the community in code enforcement as efficiently, expediently and economically as possible and strive to be user friendly and informative in the permit process and in the code enforcement process.

The property owner or his/her agent should contact the Miami County Planning and Zoning Department before beginning any of the following activities:

  • New residential construction
  • New commercial construction
  • Building additions, remodeling, relocating and/or alterations
  • Pool Installations (above & in-ground)
  • Erection of Fences
  • Installation of a garage (attached or detached) or carport
  • Erection of a barn, shed or storage building
  • Erection of a gazebo
  • Installation of a deck
